FF_2013Button-300x300Welcome to old followers and new ones, too! So happy to be a part of the Feature and Follow Friday, hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read. I am this week’s feature on Parajunkee, which you can find out more about here, as well as a lot of really awesome bloggers to follow. I am going to have to take some time tonight to visit all sorts of new blogs.

Anyway, on this blog, I usually blog about books–children’s to YA and any book for kids or adults that can help or inspire women in any way. I am also a children’s and YA author with small presses, and so I like to promote other small or self-published authors, too! We all need our stories and voices to be heard.

As for the question I’m supposed to answer:

How important is good writing to you? In an ideal world, a book would be beautifully written AND have great character development, plot, etc. But in the real world, which do you prefer: (1) Great characters and plot with lousy writing or (2) Middling character development and plot but gorgeous writing?

My answer–this is not an easy question. Lousy writing is really hard to get past, especially if it has a lot of errors that should have been caught be a copyeditor. But I love a good story. HOWEVER, I also love good writing, and I usually judge a book by the first page. In the first page or so, you can tell if there is gorgeous writing or not, but you can’t really tell problems with characters and plot until you are a few chapters in. SO. . .I think I would have to say that I would probably stick with number 2. I would be drawn in by the good writing and then probably stick with the book until the end to see if the plot or character development got any better. Bad writing would just annoy me, and I probably wouldn’t keep going. I’m interested to see what the rest of you think if you want to answer the question!

**If you have a chance, I also blog over at Lit Ladies and would love for you to check out this post I just wrote about teenage pressure to have sex and a reader responding to a plot point in my current YA, Caught Between Two Curses. You can find that discussion here.

**If you like ebooks, YA Buccaneers is currently giving away an e-copy of Caught Between Two Curses (magical elements, teen romance, and baseball all in one) if you want to check out their blog here.

Thanks! Can’t wait to meet you all. :)
