I am over the moon (over the blood moon even) about this awesome FIVE-STAR review from a tween reviewer on the website, LIT PICK. This is for my YA novel, Caught Between Two Curses, which is set in present-day Chicago and revolves around the life of 17-year-old Julie Nigelson, whose family is cursed. She doesn’t realize this when the book opens–her biggest problem is her boyfriend Gus who wants her to have sex. But as soon as her uncle goes into a coma from eating a bratwurst at a Cubs game, she knows something is off. Then her aunt tells her that her family is cursed, and it’s tied to the Curse of the Billy Goat on the Chicago Cubs–and she’s the one that has to figure out how to break the curses and save her family. NO PRESSURE.
Anyway, here’s what the lovely young reviewer said, “Five stars for Margo Dill!. . .The book pulled you in the second you started to read it. On top of that, it had a lot of reality blended with the curses on Julie’s family. Could this be the best book in the world? It might just be!”

MAGGIE MAE GOT A GREAT REVIEW, TOO!
I am also thrilled with this review by Andre over on WOW! Women On Writing. Andre is the first grade son of my co-worker, Crystal Otto, and he wanted to review Maggie Mae, Detective Extrordinaire: The Case of the Missing Cookies, and interview me, too. I LOVED his questions! I’ve gotten several notes and photos from my Facebook friends about their children reading the book (it’s for kids ages 3 to 8) and then playing detective with their own notebook and pencil. One little girl found her grandpa! LOL, I love kids!
GREAT WRITING CONFERENCE
October is always a great month for my family as we celebrate my daughter’s birthday on the 26th and Halloween on the 31st, of course. The last two years, I also was lucky enough to be a speaker at the Ozark Creative Writers’ Conference in Eureka Springs, AR, a beautiful place. I had a blast this year and wrote all about it here: http://muffin.wow-womenonwriting.com/2014/10/writers-should-really-talk-to-other.html . If you live in the Midwest or even down south a bit, consider attending this conference, which is in October EVERY YEAR. So inspiring. I hadn’t worked on my WIP in a while, and I went right home and have almost finished the final draft now–it’s a new picture book!
NEWS-GAZETTE REVIEWS
Did you know I review books for the News Gazette in Champaign, IL every Sunday and you can find all my reviews online? You can go to their site and just search for Margo Dill to find my reviews. Recently, I’ve reviewed Thursdays at Coconuts, Dickenstein, Dave Barry’s latest book, a book about female heroes in World War II, and more. I’ve also read The Coldest Girl in Cold Town by Holly Black–it’s YA, and so I can’t review it for my column, but I enjoyed it, too. It’s a vampire book, but it’s so original. Plus Holly Black is a genius! Right now, I’m listening to Gone Girl on Audible. How about you?
