Thank you to Candace Carrabus, author of mystery, fantasy and romance novels and novellas, for tagging me in a character blog tour. Last week, Candace had a very LIVELY post told from the POV of her main character in On the Buckle, book one in a contemporary mystery series staring Vi. Check out Candace and her books–she is a great writer and friend–I’ve known her for so many years now. We used to be in the same critique group before I had to do something like get married.
Now on to my character–Julie Nigelson, 17, from my YA contemporary, light paranormal novel, Caught Between Two Curses from Rocking Horse Publishing. Julie is a regular teenager with a long-term boyfriend and a group of friends: two of them, Matt and Nancy, closer to her than the others. After her parents death when she was 3, she went to live with her aunt and uncle, who also have a 4-year-old son. She loves Katharine Hepburn and hates baseball. She likes helping out her aunt and neighbor, and she can spend time going to a party or playing an old board game like Monopoly with her best friend, Matt. Julie did an interview with the wonderful YA fantasy author, Debbie Manber Kupfer, author of P.A.W.S., who will be participating in this character blog tour next week. Currently she is holding a giveaway, which includes a shapeshifter amulet. You can check out everything Debbie is offering readers here.
So, here is the interview, which originally appeared on Debbie’s blog. Thanks for reading!
Q: Julie, what is going on with you and Gus? Do you think you will work out your issues?
Julie: I hate to talk about this because every time I think about what Gus did, I either get REALLY mad or really sad. Basically, he says that we’ve been going out for so long and he loves me so much that he wants to have sex. I’m NOT READY. I’ve told him a million times, and then one night, we just had a big blow up over the whole thing. Now he’s not really talking to me, and I don’t know what to do. I guess we broke up, and I still love him.
Q: What about this curse on your family? What’s that all about?
Julie: You know what? Is there even such a thing as a curse? I mean, Uncle Henri, who is now in a coma after eating a bratwurst at a Cubs game, has talked about a curse for as long as I can remember. Supposedly there’s this curse on the Chicago Cubs and that’s why they don’t win. But Aunt Lizzie always says it’s just because they suck at baseball, which I don’t care either way. It’s so boring.
Q: But your uncle is in a coma after eating a bratwurst? Don’t you think that’s a little strange?
Julie: Yes, it’s crazy. And my aunt says it’s because some woman put a curse on our family a long time ago because of my grandma. So, Uncle Henri is under the curse. But the worst thing is that my grandma is alive and living right here in Chicago, and my aunt never told me—all because of this supposed curse.
Q: WOW! Did you go see your grandma?
Julie: Yea—my best friend Matt and I went, and that just made things worse. She said we are under a curse, too, and that’s why my parents died when I was three. And then she said that Uncle Henri would die before he was 35 if I didn’t figure out how to break the curse. ME? Break a curse? My whole family is losing their minds.
Q: What are you going to do?
Julie: I wish what I was going to do is invite Matt over and watch a Katharine Hepburn (my mom’s favorite actress and mine, too) movie marathon and stuff my face with chips and pizza. But I guess instead I have to figure out how to help my family and if Gus and I broke up or not. They all drive me nuts, but I love them all, especially Gus.

Thanks, Julie! What a great interview.
